Who we are

Founded on a shared passion for motorsport, Scott Cowell and Miles McDaniel established Ascent Competition with the goal of making professional-level driver development more accessible in the Pacific Northwest.

With over 50 years of combined experience in motorsports, Scott and Miles bring a wealth of knowledge spanning from grassroots karting to elite international karting and junior formula car programs.

Our People

A lifelong karting enthusiast, Scott has dedicated 30 years to mastering the sport. His experience across all levels of karting enables him to bridge the gap between entry-level karting and professional race preparation. From local dirt karting races to managing international-level teams, Scott’s journey has led him to victories ranging from rental karting trophies to prestigious SKUSA Supernationals wins. This broad experience offers a rare and comprehensive understanding of the sport, which is often lacking in today’s hyper-specialized karting landscape.

Scott's extensive background as a driver, driver coach, track operator and in technical engine and chassis development allows him to provide Ascent’s racers with the knowledge and support they need to achieve their motorsport goals. In addition to his karting expertise, his experience extends into car racing, including stock cars, sedan road racing, and Junior Formula. This diverse background equips Scott to guide racers at every stage of their motorsport journey.

Miles was born into a racing family in the Pacific Northwest, with his early memories shaped by the sport—often having his diaper changed on the tailgate of a truck during National Formula Atlantic races. He has since built an impressive career in motorsport, starting from the ground up. Miles began by handling tires and advanced to engineering successful club Formula Atlantic and Vintage GTP race cars. He also served as Car Chief for Team Pabst Racing in the highly competitive USF2000 Championship, contributing to the team’s winning record. With extensive experience in junior formula racing, both as a driver and mechanic, Miles offers invaluable expertise to foster the development of aspiring racers on their journey to a professional motorsports career.

Megan Cowell brings a diverse range of experience to Ascent, including expertise in business management, pastoring, yoga instruction, and brand ambassadorship. As our Hospitality Director, Megan brings a refreshing energy and personality to the racing environment, elevating the experience beyond the typical utilitarian nature of the sport.

Ben Hawkins adds his specialized branding and design expertise to ensure our drivers not only perform at their best but also stand out in the competitive motorsport landscape. His efforts bridge the gap between speed and style, helping our drivers look as good as they race.

Colin Olson, the longtime public face of karting at PGP Motorsports Park, brings an unmatched passion for karting that sets him apart. Having been immersed in the sport from an early age, Colin lives and breathes karting. As our official test driver and driver coach, Colin offers an incredible wealth of seat time and experience to support and develop our drivers.

Jon Ray, PGP-certified meteorologist and yet another lifelong motorsports enthusiast, brings a wealth of operational and mechanical expertise to the team. In his full-time role at PGP Motorsports, Jon leads the management team that has played a key role in establishing PGP as the Pacific Northwest's premier karting track. Outside of his professional responsibilities, Jon enjoys motocross racing with his son, Cooper, and has dedicated countless unpaid hours to support Ascent’s cause. Long story short, a huge, heartfelt  thank you to Jon for his massive contribution to Ascent!
